Reharmonization is one of the most sought after, yet complex musical subjects in modern music. Guitarist Steve Giordano shares his insights, both philosophically and practically, with a complete walk-through of his very unique re-harm treatment of jazz standard “Stella by Starlight”. The video opens with a full blown live performance with trumpeter Bob Meashey, as the duo interactively explores their way through this intriguing re-harm offering.  In Part Two, “Why Re-Harm?”, Steve gives a thorough explanation on the vague subject of reharmonization.  In Part Three, “Aesthetic Choices”, Steve walks the viewer though the piece, explaining in depth, the choices and how they relate to the original harmonies.

Excellent class. Steve is a wonderful teacher and very inspiring musician. There are no written materials, but he goes step by step through Stella and explains his thinking behind all of the substitutions and changes made to the harmony. Easy to follow. Includes a long, beautiful performance section with Steve and trumpeter Bob Meashey.

Well, I just finished watching it, and it seems to me to be clear that Mr. Giordano has a lot more to say than can be compacted into 90 or so minutes, so if this is a 3-part series, so be it; it is worth it to me!!

I am contemplating ordering this video class but I can't figure out from the description whether, for $29.95, I'm just getting Part I or if I'm getting Part I, II and III... The title "Reharmonization - Part I - 'Exploring Stella'" sounds like I'm just getting Part I, which, according to the description, is "...a full blown live performance with trumpeter Bob Meashey,...". I'm confused... I am forced to give a rating for this product in order to post this comment. Since I think Steve Giordano is an incredible guitar player, I posted 5 stars.
